Aya mulai dikenal dengan trademarknya sebagai artis yang boyish karena potongan rambutnya yang pendek. Seiring popularitasnya, fans Aya pun mulai memberikan nickname pada Aya, beberapa diantaranya Uetti, Ayato, bahkan Ayaya (nickname yang sama dengan Aya Matsuura) namun karena tidak ada yang pas, nama Aya pun tetap dikenal sebagai Aya Ueto
